What’s the Secret to Opera Tampa’s 25 Years of Success?

Robin Stamper,
Opera Tampa Artistic Director and Managing Director

Around the world, you hear people saying that opera is a dying art form, that our grandchildren or great-grandchildren won’t even have live performances to attend. Yet, here we are on the threshold of Opera Tampa’s 25th anniversary season.

Opera Tampa Singers and I are in the schools building the next generation of opera lovers; we’re in assisted living facilities transporting arias and dramatic scenes to people who can’t physically get to The Straz for a performance. We’re holding pop-up performances in restaurants and public spaces to attract new audiences. I’m deeply proud of the fact that Opera Tampa can hire and cultivate an impressive roster of talented local singers who want to build their careers here—and not have to leave us for opportunities in New York or Los Angeles.

The fact is that opera is dwindling and disappearing in places where people won’t support it. Tampa is one of the rare, special places in this country where opera enjoys a robust and supportive audience. One big reason is the fact that we have generous donors in the Opera Tampa League who understand that opera survives, thrives, evolves and enchants new audiences only because there are people willing to invest in it. In order to have opera for the future, we must take actions that strengthen it today.

With every gift to Opera Tampa, we are strategizing, planning, creating and implementing exciting ways to not only keep this art form alive but also to use it to awaken creativity and connections in and among so many people in our area.

Every donor to Opera Tampa is important to the success of the company and to its ongoing reputation as an international contender for outstanding grand opera productions. Your annual gift energizes our opera-in-schools programs and supports the careers of our Opera Tampa Singers. It feeds every effort we take to build audiences, coach the next generation of artists and hire the talent we need to present the caliber of opera that you love to experience.

So, if anybody asks you the secret to Opera Tampa’s longevity, here it is: Opera Tampa League donors. You can become part of the greatest achievement of Opera Tampa’s past 25 years. We stand, sing, emote, murder, fight, drink, and love year after year because people like you take an action that keeps opera vibrant and vital.

Please support Opera Tampa today. A gift of any amount matters.

Thank you for your belief in opera and your ongoing generosity. I look forward to the promising future we’re building for Opera Tampa.

Warmly,

Robin Stamper
